Tuahiwi is the home of Ngāi Tūāhuriri in North Canterbury.
The takiwā of Te Ngāī Tūāhuriri Rūnanga centres on Tuahiwi and extends from the Hurunui River to the Hakatere River and inland to the main divide. The whare, Maahunui takes its name from the canoe or our shared ancestor, Māui-tikitiki-a-Te Raka.
Maahunui ll, the new whare, opened in 2012 is a contemporary purpose built complex designed to meet the needs of Tuahiwi people.
